IDENTIDADI TA MOVI

Sandro Lopes' work does not treat identity as something permanent.

There is, in his practice, an understanding that living between different territories also changes the way someone perceives themselves and presents themselves to the world. His images emerge precisely in this space of continuous adaptation, where preserving essence does not mean remaining the same.

By working between abstraction and figuration, the artist creates compositions that do not seek to stabilize these transformations, but to allow them to coexist. Color, texture and gesture appear as moving structures, accompanying experiences linked to migration, memory and cultural circulation without transforming these issues into a fixed or definitive narrative.

In “Identidadi ta Movi”, displacement does not appear as an absolute rupture, but as a continuous reorganization of presence and belonging. Fragments of identity, everyday faces and self-representations permeate his practice as ways of affirming an existence that remains in transit, without losing its connections with Cape Verde, Africa and the diaspora.
